Participatory Identification of Biases in Artificial Intelligence
PHASE 1. Citizens’ Perception and Knowledge of Artificial Intelligence Biases in Spain
In this initial phase, two studies will be conducted.
The first study will involve three focus groups (with a total of 30 participants) in order to gain a detailed understanding of participants’ perceptions of Artificial Intelligence and the biases they identify within it. The results of this study will help the research team identify key areas and tools to be used in subsequent tasks and phases.
The second study in this phase will consist of a national quantitative survey of 400 Spanish citizens, aimed at exploring public perceptions and levels of knowledge regarding existing biases in AI tools. This survey will enable the team to produce a report and a benchmark reflecting the current state of social perception and awareness of Artificial Intelligence biases in Spain.
PHASE 2. Introduction to AI for Citizens (Applications and Risks)
In this phase, a massive open online course (MOOC) will be conducted to provide Spanish citizens with an introductory training on Artificial Intelligence and to create a critical mass of citizens capable of detecting biases in AI tools.
This workshop will address AI implications, applications, and ethical challenges, with particular emphasis on AI biases. At the end of the training, participants will take part in a practical exercise in which they will search for and identify biases present in existing AI tools.
